Travel Plan 2008 Pamphlet
Look out for other School Travel Plan events throughout the year. Please support our Walk to School Week in May and also our WOW! (Walk Once a Week) Schemes.

Traffic on the roads discourages walking and therefore creates more traffic. Help to break this VICIOUS CIRCLE. These measures require the support and involvment of all parents. THANK YOU IN ANTICIPATION OF YOUR CO-OPERATION |

School Travel Plan
Improving the health and safety of our children
Having reviewed pupils’ journeys to school, and pedestrian
and vehicular access to our site, we have developed a
Travel Plan to make the area around school safer and
encourage pupils to walk whenever possible. The plan aims
to improve the access to school for pedestrians and
disabled people, and this leaflet is a summary of our Travel
Plan. It also contains ideas and guidelines for car users.
As part of our School Travel plan we are encouraging
pupils and parents to walk to school whenever possible.
Benefits of Walking to School:
v Your child can practise their road safety skills.
v It is good for the health of you and your child.
v Fewer cars on the road and outside school makes it safer for walkers.
v It is sociable for people to walk to school together.
v Pupils who walk to school arrive more alert and ready to learn.
v Walking causes less pollution to the environment.
CAR USERS
We understand that for some people walking to school is not possible due to the distance/work commitments.
Car Share: why not team-up with others in your local area and share the journey to school, saving both time and money?
Park and Walk: Can you leave a few minutes early, park away from school and walk the remainder of the journey?
WOW: Walk Once a Week. Is it possible to fit this into your schedule?
For those who need to drive we have also developed ‘Drivers’ Guidelines’:
v Please adhere to the speed limit in the area. There is a 30 mph speed limit around our school; this is put in place to keep the roads safe for our children, although we would encourage you to drive at 20 mph.
v Don’t park on the pavement – pulling up on the pavement can be dangerous to pedestrians and can obstruct those with pushchairs or wheelchair users.
v Don’t drop off or park outside our school or on double yellow lines.
v As the school is situated on a no-through road/cul de sac please do not drive down to the gate as this often results in hazardous reversing/U-turns.
v Do not park on junctions as again this is hazardous and blocks pupils’ visiblity.
v Please consider local residents and avoid parking across driveways.
v Don’t park in the staff car park
Please remember, owing to their size it is much harder for children to cross between parked cars than adults as they may not be able to see any oncoming traffic.
