Western School was established in 1878 as an infant and girls' elementary school. It was housed in our former premises in Elm Road. As you may imagine the school environment at that time was a semi-rural one. The major change in school organisation occurred in 1932 when we became a mixed junior and infant school.
The school was resited to its present very attractive position in February 1975. The 21st anniversary of the move saw the opening of a new 2 classroom extension. Last year saw the opening of a second, 3 class extension, taking the school to a total of 14 classes. At the same time a Millennium Building Appeal funded the provision of a new Music and Drama room and also provded an Information Technology Suite. |
We believe that the education of our children is a shared responsibility between home and school and hope that we may establish a close working relationship with you in the course of the next few years. We hope you will be able to support us in our general aim, which is set out below:
"By setting the highest standards of education and behaviour, we aim to provide a happy, stable and caring atmosphere in which children thrive, physically, intellectually, morally and spiritually. We seek to promote active, purposeful learning within a context of sound self-discipline and social awareness, so that our children may develop to their fullest potential to become useful and contributing members of society"
