Western Primary School Newsletter No 12
Monday 20th July 2009
Dear Parents/Carers
As we draw to the end of another busy year at Western, I would like to thank you for your continuing support of the school.
I hope your children have enjoyed the opportunities on offer and that they are looking forward to a relaxing summer break.
My very best wishes to all the Year 6 pupils as they prepare to start at their new secondary schools in September.
This year group has a particularly special place in my heart, as their first day was also my first day. We have shared many smiles, much laughter and a few tears over the last seven years. It has been a pleasure to watch them grow and develop, and a privilege to share in their learning journey. I hope they will take with them many happy memories of their time at Western and make the most of all the new opportunities on offer.
The Dracula Rock Show
The Year 6 production was a super finale to the children’s time at Western. It was a fantastic ensemble piece with superb acting, singing and dancing. Great team work was evident during the rehearsals and the performances with the children supporting and encouraging each other throughout.
Miss Bailey, Miss Fear and Mrs Henderson did a marvellous job with the children; thanks also to Mrs Lambert for her expertise with the costumes and props.
Travel Plan work – summer holidays
Work on improving the safety of the school entrance begins on 27th July. A second gate, new pedestrian barriers and improved disabled parking are the main improvements being carried out. Work on a second pelican crossing in Chilbolton Avenue is also due to start in the summer. This is not part of Western’s Travel Plan.
Vandalism and the school shed
We have paid for security patrols to commence in July as part of improved security measures to prevent vandalism on site.
On behalf of the staff and governors, may I express our thanks for the donations to replace equipment stolen, broken or burnt from the Year 1 shed. There was over £1000 of damage caused and you have raised over £1000! Thank you for your generosity.
Particular thanks to Anna in Year 4 who donated half her takings (£18) from her garage sale; the other half of the money went to charity.
Uniform
Thank you to everyone for supporting the uniform code. It has been the smartest year yet, with the Year 6 pupils being good role models, for example, changing out of their trainers during lessons.
Please find attached a copy of the Western uniform list.
Cricket Tournament
Congratulations to the cricket team who represented Western at St Cross last week. They all played with an excellent team spirit, were excellent ambassadors for the school and were the overall winners: Stuart Veal, Tom Foster, Alfie Marles, Thomas Steggell, Tobias Stonier, Ben Cawston, Alex Gleave, Will Greenough and George Ellis.
May I take this opportunity to wish you and your family a safe, healthy and very relaxing summer break.
Yours sincerely
Lorraine Smith
Headteacher
